U.S. Embassy - Montevideo, Uruguay

The acclaimed American architect for the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay was I. M. Pei. The building was designed in the brutalist style and expresses strength and stability. Its architectural concrete mass is raised above a ground-level arcade wrapped around the solid walls of the recessed entry level. It was inaugurated in November 1969 and instantly became an icon of the rambla, the promenade that runs along the Río de la Plata and the Palermo neighborhood. Its wide sidewalks and the park facing the rambla are gathering and recreation spaces for the families in the area and their pets.
