Richard Haas
American, 1936
Richard Haas was born in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1959, and earned his M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1964. The artist is known for his large-scale architectural scenes that utilize trompe l’oeil techniques. Though Haas’s murals are his most recognizable works, he has recently been interested in small-scale diorama scenes of famous artists’ studio interiors.
His work appears on private and public buildings throughout the United States, with one commission done in Munich. Notable examples of Richard Haas’s work include Chase Field in Phoenix; the Robert C. Byrd Federal Building and Courthouse in Beckley, West Virginia; the Boston Architectural Center; the Kroger Building in Cincinnati; the Portland Historical Society; and multiple facades in Homewood, Illinois.
