Malcolm Morley

American, born United Kingdom, 1931–2018

Malcolm Morley was born in London in 1931. The artist attended the Camberwell College of Arts and the Royal College of Arts. After completing his education, he moved to New York City in 1958, where he lived and worked for the rest of his career. Morley was a painter known for his contributions to Superrealism, and for his images of historical military events, cars and planes. During his lifetime, Morley was the recipient of several awards including: the 1984 inaugural Turner Prize in 1984, the Painting Award from Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1992, and the Francis J. Greenburger Award in 2015.

Morley’s works has been shown all over the world in individual and group exhibitions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; the Brooklyn Museum in New York; Tate Liverpool; the Kunsthalle Basel in Switzerland; Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York; Yale School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut; and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
