Chris Astley

American, 1965

Christopher Astley is a multimedia artist whose work questions notions of form, abstraction, and expectations of space. Astley was born in East Lansing, Michigan, where he remained to pursue his BGS from the University of Michigan in 1988. Astley currently lives and works in New York City, where he started creating his noted concrete-filled bag sculptures like Groan Hall: AFB Lab, 2010.  His diverse body of work has been shown in several contemporary art spaces, including Salomon Contemporary, Fisher Gallery, Contemporary Art Museum at the University of South Florida, Sargent’s Daughters, and the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, among others.
