The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies sends a huge congratulations to Don Gummer for being named one of this year’s Governor's Arts Awardees from the Connecticut Office of the Arts!

FAPE’s friendship with Don began in 2014 when we commissioned him to create a site-specific work for the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. The artist traveled to Moscow on several occasions to visit the embassy and to study Russian art and culture in order to better inform his work. On a train ride from Moscow to St. Petersburg in July 2014, Don sketched and reflected on his time in Russia. Those drawings were realized in the model he presented to Secretary of State John Kerry at FAPE’s State Department dinner in 2015.

Frontier is a 22-foot-high stainless steel and bronze sculpture that soars from the arrival courtyard, above security walls, and is visible to the citizens of Moscow. It was officially dedicated at a ceremony with Ambassador Jon Huntsman on June 8, 2018.

Pace Gallery’s current exhibition, Joel Shapiro: Out of the Blue, provides a vivid glimpse into the artist’s practice featuring three new large-scale painted wood sculptures and a selection of studies and small bronzes. On view through October 26, 2024, the show is not to be missed!

After his remarkable 37-year career as head gardener at Winfield House, the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in London, Stephen Crisp announced his retirement last month. FAPE had the pleasure of working with Stephen when we installed the Janice H. Levin Sculpture Garden featuring Elie Nadelman's Seated Woman with Raised Arm in 2000.

We are immensely grateful for his years of dedicated care of the garden as well as FAPE’s Louise Bourgeois’s Spider which found a new home on the property last year. Congratulations, Stephen! To read more, click here.
