The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies is profoundly saddened to learn of the death of FAPE Board member Dorothy Lichtenstein. Dorothy was deeply admired by everyone at FAPE.

Our friendship started in 1995 when her husband, Roy, donated Composition III for our Original Print Collection. She provided the lead gift, Reflections on Señorita, to FAPE’s millennium GIFT TO THE NATION Collection in 1998. The painting is on permanent display at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Mexico City, Mexico, and was presented to President and Mrs. Clinton at a dinner at the White House.

For the past nine years, Dorothy honored FAPE by serving on our Board. She was an extraordinary member and we benefited enormously from her creativity, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to our mission.

In 2017, Dorothy and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation announced their remarkable gift to FAPE of Roy’s Greene Street Mural. The monumental mural, which layers pervasive images from his pop lexicon, was installed this past April in the main diplomatic entrance at the new U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.

It is a wonderful tribute to our two countries’ rich tradition of murals, which Dorothy understood and respected immensely.

Her generosity to FAPE was unending and we will miss her deeply, but her contributions to FAPE and our nation’s cultural diplomacy efforts are everlasting.

We send our sympathies to Dorothy’s family as well as her team members from the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation and Estate.
